Reviews Realtors Rigmarole

As I mentioned in my previous post, the ladies and I went to Co Co. Sala, a new restaurant in DC’s Penn Quarter, after seeing Sex and the City for a fun dinner. I promised a review, and you can find it HERE. It’s at a site which is a brainchild of Adventures in Shaw and myself. We love food. We love cultural events. We love blogging and photography. It seemed natural that we would start our own little nook on the web to review places and events we attend. What’s really neat is that, in addition to reviewing Co Co. Sala, she managed to snag an interview with the owner of the restaurant, which will hopefully be the start of a new trend. And maybe we’ll add a few more contributors.

As for the Blog Entry Contest I’m still reading through everything, and will announce the winners at the end of the week!

In other news, this Washington DC apartment search is hectic. On Saturday we went to take a look at a place in Petworth. After we realized we’d probably get shot and didn’t want to live across the way from a bright giant red and yellow sign declaring “Eat More Fried Chicken!” it didn’t work out. As a note to the realtor who posted that listing, it might be wise to not post pictures of a different building that in no way looks like what you’re selling. I’m not going to mistake a crack den for a nice building.

That could just be me, though. What do I know?

After that we thought we found an ideal location in Columbia Heights. In our price range. Nice part of the nieghborhood. Good looking. Allowed pets… or so we thought, until we called. Thank you Mr. Internet for providing misinformation. We would have taken it had it been Horatio-friendly. I feel like a Lifetime movie proclaiming “Not without my son!”

We did find a promising lead today, thankfully. It’s a gorgeous 1 bedroom in a townhouse on the first floor. (Not a basement apartment, which is always a plus.) It’s in Capital Hill, pet friendly, in our price range, and just beautiful. We have an appointment to view it on Saturday, and the guy we’ve been in contact with has been very nice and forthcoming with information. Fingers crossed, because I really like the looks of it. I want to say I have a very good feeling about it, but I’m nervous about jinxing it. Then again I just said it. Crap.

Tomorrow I’m also hopefully closing a deal on a very exciting opportunity. An opportunity that would… well I would work from home, able to make my own hours, and be on a salary for a really fun non-profit organization. Think happy thoughts around 2 pm, as I’ll be at the Corner Bakery in Arlington selling myself for this position. Patrick keeps telling me that, under the circumstances, it sounds like I’ve got it in the bag, but I’m nervous. I really want this to work out. It would allow me to continue writing and throw some school in there down the line.

Now Horatio needs to be walked. Life is topsy turvy, trying to organize all of our plans, but it’s all very exciting. 2008 is shaping up to be a fabulous year. Engaged to Patrick, moving to DC, potentially fabulous job and apartment… it’s like all of a sudden things are coming together.

But first I have a bunch of comments to respond to…

  • Wow. That does sound rather fabulous, doesn’t it?

  • I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that you get the job and the apartment turns out not to be riddled with crack whores. And you know if the apartment has lots of natural light, I’m bringin’ my dishes over there to photograph!

  • Horatio is so cute! We also were Lifetime movie material when looking for apartments because our dog was the number one priority. Sad, but true. And she’s so worth it!

We live in a basement apartment, besides not getting a lot of light…okay pretty much any light, it’s not bad!

  • Glad to hear the apartment search yielded a good prospect. I went and saw a “crack den/rape cave” once too and the realtor did the bait-and-switch. Trust me, I know when I’m not seeing what you advertised. I can tell the difference.

  • @Ben: It does!

@ShawGirl: Yea, I’m hoping it’s not, as another put it, a rape cave. Although I think this one will turn out just fine! I can’t wait to see the kitchen. I know we will have some sort of patio/deck, as well… if we take it, of course. If we do, I see summer lunches and dinners in our future. Perhaps a Culturati meeting of the minds!

@Jackie: Aw, thanks! Sometimes I can’t get over how cute he is. He doesn’t even look real sometimes. And we’re the same way. He is so spoiled. Our little angel.

@Jessica: Hahaha, “rape cave” is pretty much the best thing I’ve heard all day.

  • I don’t know if you read DC Nearlyweds, but they made a post asking if any DC-area brides-to-be getting married in 2009 would like to blog over there.

    Thought of you! :)

  • @jessica maria: Thanks for the heads up and for thinking of me! I actually already applied for that. Fingers crossed, hehe.
