Well, we got booted out of our original venue. Sadness. But in every storm cloud, there is a silver lining. Our silver lining is…

…the Odyssey. Meet the Odyssey. Which is going to be our new venue. The ceremony and reception will be taking place on the boat, followed by a lovely Saturday Brunch Buffet, unlimited champagne, and dancing. We’ll cap off the day by popping next door to Cantina Marina with anyone who wishes to continue the festivities.
Following the wedding and reception, Patrick and I will be honeymooning in…

…Colonial Williamsburg! I’m so excited. A lot of people think Williamsburg is stuffy and boring, but it’s such a wonderful amazing place. One of the cool things about living with my father is that we spent every Thanksgiving in Williamsburg, as my stepmother’s mother lived there. It’s one of the most beautiful and romantic places, especially in the fall, which is convenient since we moved the wedding to early October. Sorry, I’m not going on a cruise in December. It’s not happening.
Bridesmaid dresses have been chosen, which is fabulous. Although I do have to send an email out about that. I’ve also started looking at dresses myself, and there is one that stands out like a million dollars, but thankfully is in my price range. (The joys of financing a wedding yourself.)

Like other brides I know, I’ve been scouring websites about etiquette. This is especially true since we’ve switched from an evening wedding and reception to a morning ceremony/early afternoon reception. Apparently the rules change. One of the things I’ve learned is that if you’re having a daytime wedding, your dress is supposed to be a bit less formal. Beading and lots of detailing is considered formal. I’ve found a nice alternative that is not as fancy as the one shown above, but I’m just in love with that dress. I know I’m going to try it on, and if it’s the dress, I’m going to have a hard time saying no to it just to be socially correct. Although I’ve never been one to completely follow tradition, so really would it be so awful to have the dress I want if it’s not the proper thing to do?
Anyway, I’m just beyond thrilled. There have been many adjustments in dates, locations, etc… and for once it feels RIGHT. We’ve even found invitations and picked out some wonderful centerpieces.
Now I wish the day wasn’t so dang far away. At least we’ll have fun planning in the meantime. That’s also another great thing about this wedding planning thing. Patrick has AMAZING taste and is enjoying being involved with the process. I’ve heard so many stories about brides doing everything themselves and their future husbands don’t really give a damn about any of the details. That’s really important to me because I’ve also seen a lot of brides running around screaming “Well I want it that way because it’s MY day!” I don’t want it to be like that. It’s our day, and I’m glad that we are both involved in it.
And no, I will not be putting bridesmaids in ugly hot pink puffy taffeta.

I love wedding posts! Also, that dress is gorgeous and not too over-the-top for a daytime wedding. If you try it on and love it, I say go for it! Although I will say that before I went dress shopping, I had a couple of contenders that I found online that I LOVED, and then in person, NOT SO MUCH.

fiancĂ© has practically picked out the reception venue. I love it also but he picked it out and sold me on it. Everything else is pretty much all me, but I’ve been including him because it’s kind of the right thing to do ya know?
Daytime weddings should definitely be a bit more informal than an evening wedding per say but remember…it’s your wedding

that dress is gorgeous!

That dress is AMAZING. And I don’t think Colonial Williamsburg is boring. I would love to do that!

I love the dress! screw etiquette. It’s your wedding and that dress is amazing.
That’s a new header, right? I <3 it.

Love the dress…I got my dress off the rack, which made it a lot cheaper. If you can find one you love in your size that is definitely a good route. And do whatever you two want, if you get all wrapped up in the “right” things to do you will end up hating the planning process…and it is definitely fun when you both take an active part in designing your day! Best of luck

The dress is gorgeous, and I love the invitations! For some reason, I have a thing for invitations and love seeing unique ones!

Wow the Odyssey is gorgeous. That is perfect! Be careful on the etiquette stuff though my co-worker is following Emily Post to a “t” and it’s making the entire process miserable. Awful.

Hells yeah you’re not putting me in hot pink puffy taffeta…Black women don’t look good in puffy things. No matter what Whoopi Goldberg thinks…

No hot pink taffeta? sad face. Didn’t we make an agreement? Now I have to change my entire outlook of our friendship.

Awww I think that dress looks fab. And yay for Williamsburg! I grew up in the area (Yorktown).
Fall weddings are awesome!

i have to echo the previous comments about the wedding dress you’re considering — it is stunning, so much so that i think it may just trump etiquette.

Ditto to everyone above on the dress.

Congratulations! I just found your blog about two weeks ago and I love your writing. Now I see that you are planning a wedding (as am I with less than a month to go and so much to do). Your venue looks amazing. As for the dress, get whatever makes you happy. Forget the rules. My fiancee and I are going on our honeymoon first, finding someone to perform a private ceremony for the two of us while away, then returning for a second ceremony and celebration locally for a few friends and family. My dress is not a traditional wedding gown. It stops just below my knees, but I feel like a fairy princess when I put it on. If you want a full length embellished dress for an early day wedding, by golly, you go get it! Smile and enjoy your and your husband-to-be’s day.

Proper smoper. If that’s THE dress, you’ll know. It’s your day!
But that dress is amazing!
What are you colors for the wedding?
Ugh, you brides-to-be are making me plan out my own wedding and I’m so far from that

I have to chime in and say that dress is stunning! I hope we get to see you in it.
I’m visiting from all mediocre for the first time. I use to live in the DC area and my family is still there - your blog feels like home.
